Mama Mia, here we go again.
The iconic Grammy-winning Swedish pop group Abba, adored by fans across the world, announced yesterday that they are making a comeback with two fantastic new songs, an upcoming album and a set of virtual-style concerts.
Excitingly, ABBA: Voyage is set to be released on November 5. It will be the first new music in over 40 years by the famous pop group. Additionally, it will follow a set of revolutionary live concerts where virtual avatars of the musicians will appear digitally to play their greatest hits.
Wonderfully, from May 27 in 2022, the run of shows will begin in London. There has been no word on whether these concerts will take place in other countries. We can only hope with the power of technology they will plan to host some concerts in New Zealand. Perhaps, you can experience this yourself in London if travel restrictions ease.
Their two new songs called ‘I Still Have The Faith In You’ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’ were teased to fans during a streamed press conference last night. Equally, both songs will be included on their upcoming 10-track album.
In 1982, Abba split their group of four which consisted of Benny Andersson, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog. In 1966, Abba’s journey began after writing their first song. Then, they went on to win the 1974 Eurovision with ‘Waterloo’, which became number one across Europe. Consequently, it led the way for dozens of award-winning songs and albums to be produced. Including the famous musical Mama Mia and the film adaption with an a-list cast from Meryl Streep to Colin Firth, and more.
Undoubtedly, Abba was one of the most successful groups in the history of music, bringing a culture of music that most of us know globally today. We can’t wait for this new chapter.
