Music gives movies a sense of rhythm—a flow. It pulls us in, makes us tense and has us feeling all the feels: the highs become more ecstatic, the lows more emotional and the drama becomes all too much. Scenes from our favourite films have been amplified by music and the fantastic, the surreal and the wonder elevated to extremes. You can relive many of these moments at Candlelight: Best Movie Soundtracks and experience the music of our favourite films in a new light.
The setlist for Candlelight: Best Movie Soundtracks includes “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter as well as the theme songs from iconic movies like Superman, ET, Romeo and Juliet, and Forrest Gump. Songs from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars make an appearance as well with a medley and “He’s a Pirate” from Pirates of the Caribbean will also be performed.
Many of these well-known songs are thanks to a handful of composers who have honed their craft to deliver memorable on-screen moments such as John Williams and Hans Zimmer, who have been awarded numerous prizes between them. These treasured soundtracks among others will be performed by Ludwig Treviranus on piano, Martin Qi on violin and Callum Hall on cello.
Candlelight: Best Movie Soundtracks also includes music from Schindler’s List, Cinema Paradiso, Amelie and Indiana Jones. The dreamy candlelit evening takes place on Saturday 14 May at St Mary’s at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
There are two performances on the night so you can go out for drinks and dinner before or after the stunning concert—just like you would if you were going out for a night at the movies.
For those that are all about magic and the wondrous worlds created by Disney, then look no further than the Best of Magical Movie Soundtracks where you’ll get to hear songs from Mulan, The Lion King, Pinocchio, Aladdin and more while candles glow and light up St Mary’s at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
