Something wicked this way comes to Auckland this October when Candlelight takes over the thrilling Wētā Workshop Unleashed space at SkyCity for Halloween. Forget the tricks because it’ll be time to treat yourself to a night of frightfully spectacular music as candles flicker and light dances with the shadows.

The night will be dark and the tunes will be eerie as the glow of hundreds of candles lights up Wētā Workshop Unleashed—“the thrilling guided journey into a fantastical film effects facility.” As audiences surround the brilliantly lit centre stage and the string quartet crosses their strings, monsters may be lurking, goblins may be hiding and aliens may be biding their time.
But what you’ll hear will be music. Candlelight’s haunting Halloween special includes songs like “This is Halloween”, “Creep” and “Zombie”. The theme songs from Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice will also sound throughout the room while you can’t have Halloween without Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as well as the Rocky Horror Picture Show’s “Time Warp”.
Audiences will also be clutching onto the edge of their seats with renditions of Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra”, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera”, Danny Elfman’s “Tales from the Crypt” and the prelude of Bernard Herrmann’s Psycho (a suite for strings).
Performed by Real Entertainment String Quartet and directed by Anna-Marie Alloway, prepare yourself for a selection of sinister-sounding songs on Friday 28 October at SkyCity’s fantastic Wētā Workshop Unleashed.
There will be two spine-chilling performances on the evening, at 6:30pm and 8:30pm. Treat yourself to a night of ghoulish sounds and then head out into the night.
