When it comes to iconic bands, there are few more iconic than Queen. The British rock band that shot to international fame on the back of their fourth studio album A Night At The Opera, shot down critics, pushed boundaries and crossed genres to enamour millions around the world. Their music has inspired and is an inspiration, andyou’ll be able to hear it reimagined by a string quartet thanks to Candlelight in Auckland.
St. Mary’s in Holy Trinity will be flooded by a sea of flickering candles as musicians take on to the stage. Built in Gothic style and made almost exclusively from heart Kauri, a New Zealand native timber, St. Mary’s will light up as Queen bangers resonate through the sanctuary.
Candlelight: A Tribute to Queen
Queen’s legacy is matched only by a few other bands and only a very small number of bands have been credited as an influence so many times by so many varying musicians across so many different genres. They changed music for the better. And although Candlelight’s tribute won’t quite stand up to or capture the band’s stadium-rock energy, the brilliance of their music—the melodies, harmonies and rhythm—will be on full display by virtue of Real Entertainment String Quartet.
The setlist for the tribute concert includes favourite songs like “Killer Queen”, “Somebody to Love”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”, and many many more. But Queen won’t be all you get to hear at St. Mary’s in Holy Trinity. The string quartet will also reimagine iconic artists including The Rolling Stones, Santana, Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
Candlelight is perfect for special evenings with loved ones or plans with friends. And if you’re just looking to get lost in some magical musical performances in breathtaking venues, a candlelit concert is the ideal place for that, too.
Hearing your favourite songs at an intimate Candlelight concert is an original way to reintroduce yourself to the nostalgic weight they carry, and the talented string quartet will showcase their instruments’ range, dynamism, and timbre for a brilliant performance of Queen’s classic songs.
