On November 5, Artweek Auckland, presented by the Visual Arts Auckland Charitable Trust, will begin its 2021 affairs. In light of restrictions, this years event offers some sweet artful relief and some incredible experiences to enjoy in your bubbles.
This weekend, from November 5 to 9, Artweek Auckland is inviting you on their daily walks or picnics to experience uplifting public art, self-guided tours, and if you’d rather stay at home, online exhibitions from your bedroom. Check out how you can celebrate Artweek Auckland until galleries reopen.
1. Artweek Every Week App
Artweek Auckland is encouraging locals to download this app to experience self-guided walking tours of public art throughout Auckland. For example, the Link Alliance City Rail Link Art Walks, which takes you around station construction sites, to name a few.
2. Public Art Displays
Experience the delights of public art, such as Changing Lanes, which will transform Auckland’s urban spaces, and aims to connect the community, with work by Bobbie Gray, Margaret Lewis, to name a few. Alternatively, La Lumiere will light up Khartoum Place with the Forest Of Light display, and the unmissable Nature Wins display on Freyberg Place Steps. See the Artweek Auckland website for more installation information.
3. Online Workshops
Xero will be hosting online workshops, The Art Of Business, for artists and small business owners looking to understand the financial side of business, with an exclusive panel giving advice.
4. Digital Presentations
Take part in The World Of Light online event, which will feature the work of 17 digital artists, or Art Salon online, which will include a 3D virtual exhibition tour of Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery.
Excitingly, when restrictions ease on Wednesday, November 10, you can once again experience the magic of art events, in person, when galleries finally reopen. Indeed, it’s the perfect opportunity to support artists in a safe art space.
