The Flying Moa pub in Auckland is known for hosting the shortest, longest and fastest event of the year involving the world’s most adorable dogs…Dachshunds aka sausage dogs.
On September 17, the official NZ Wiener Dog Derby will return for the 6th time for its 2022 event after being cancelled last year due to COVID-19. The races will include a morning of racing, pooches in cute costumes and even some returning reigning champions.
The races will see miniature and standard dachshunds as well as other small breeds or doxie mixes compete against each other. After the races, there will be an awards ceremony for the fastest doggies. Additionally, if your furry friend isn’t much of a racer, they can still enter the costume parade for cuteness overload.
Plus, Barkley Manor will be filming their own wiener-wannabe at the event, so your pooch could end up famous on the TV. Certainly, a hilarious and entertaining experience in Auckland this month no matter if you’re dog owner or not.
