Founded in 2003 by Waiheke Community Art Gallery, Sculpture On The Gulf is an iconic outdoor art exhibition that is showcased biennial at Matiatia Coastal Walkway on Waiheke Island.
From March 4 to March 27, the influential 2022 exhibition returns to Waiheke Island. Deemed a ‘gallery without walls’, organisers hope the 2022 event will be better than ever despite RED.
The outdoor art exhibition dives into the hearts and minds of an array of New Zealand artists. For instance, the line-up includes artworks by Debbie Fish, Aiko Groot, Janine Williams, Natalie Guy, Jonas Raw and many more.
Excitingly, The Sculpture Walk is a 2km coastal walkway with some stairs and full of surprises. Equally, it takes less than 2.5 hours to complete. If your fitness isn’t up to scratch, why not take $5 shuttle bus service from the ferry terminal?
Undoubtably, the exhibition is set on one of the most beautiful islands worldwide, boasting a surreal coastal backdrop with a path to admire the diverse sculptures.
In fact, this outdoor art gallery has inspired similar exhibitions globally. Therefore, it’s well-worth the 35 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland to Waiheke Island. Plus, ticket prices vary but entry costs $15. Purchase your tickets via the Fullers website.
Additionally, Waiheke Island is home to one of the most romantic restaurants in Auckland and an array of exciting things to do.
