Move over Squid Game, after its debut on January 28, a brilliant South Korean coming-of-age show has hit number one on Netflix in under a week.
According to FlixPatrol, it reached number one in 58 countries as of Friday, February 4. Countries include New Zealand, Singapore, France, Australia and South Korea, to name a few. Likewise, the iconic South Korean make received a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
All Of Us Are Dead is an unmissable, terrifying 12-episode zombie series on Netflix that follows a diverse group of high schoolers in South Korea, who must fight for their lives, when a virus breaks out in their school lab, turning students into zombies.
The virus begins because a substitute science teacher starts experimenting on his suicidal son who is persistently bullied. Accidently, he creates a monstrous virus using a hamster that happens to bite a student who turns into a killing machine.
Interestingly, this brutal masterpiece explores themes like bullying and suicide and mirrors present day viruses, quarantines and how compassionate or selfish people can when it comes to human survival. Certainly, by the end of episode one, you’ll be pining for more.
All Of Us Are Dead takes inspiration from the webtoon Now At Our School by Joo Dong-geun. The webtoon was released between 2009 and 2011. Additionally, it was directed by renowned filmmaker Lee-Jee-kyoo.
Currently, Squid Game holds the all-time record of 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first 28 weeks. However, we think All Of Us Are Dead will beat this record. Definitely, it’s one of the best new shows to stream on Netflix New Zealand.
Watch All Of Us Are Dead on Netflix this week to see who lives to tell the tale.
