Thousands of candles have lent their gentle glow to Auckland’s sensational Candlelight concerts where the greatest works of classical music through to legendary jazz, rock and film classics, as well as contemporary hits, have been performed. The good news is that the magic is not stopping during winter.
Intimate and extraordinary atmospheres will continue to be created at some of the city’s most beautiful and unique venues, including Skycity Theatre, Holy Trinity Cathedral and St Luke’s Presbyterian Church. Auckland’s first Candlelight concerts featured Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Beethoven’s Best Works and Chopin’s Best Works. Don’t worry if you missed out because there are plenty more classical music dates to come where you will be able to experience their famed scores and more in the glowing light of hundreds of candles.
Ballet classics and Opera scores also get the Candlelight treatment in Auckland alongside contemporary greats. But, if classical isn’t quite your jam, then no worries because Candlelight continues to up the offering with tribute concerts to some of Jazz’s most celebrated artists. They too have been hugely popular with more concerts on the cards for jazz cats to enjoy.
Rock greats also get their famous songs performed by string quartets or piano duos while even dance music legends have found their tracks changing synths for strings. However, pop hits and popular tracks by chart-topping bands and performers have wildly captivated audiences basked in the flickering light of candles.
There are plenty of other special and unique concerts by Candlelight coming up, including tributes to folk songs and tributes to magical movie moments as well as famed film scores from sci-fi and fantasy as well as anime. These should definitely not be missed by any and all fans of the genres.
With countless flickering candles illuminating each unique space, the Candlelight concerts take place twice each night with two back-to-back 60-65 minute performances. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each show.
