Classical music and ballet go hand-in-hand. For centuries they have played off of each other, been improved by one another and the world has been treated to musical scores that are brilliant, fantastic and have the ability to transport audiences to faraway places. Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky’s incomparable ballet, is one of these. This season, you have the chance to experience its theme songs alongside a number of other masterpieces in a mesmerising night of Candlelight Ballet.
An intimate and beautiful setting at Holy Trinity Cathedral will welcome guests who, surrounded by candlelight, will marvel at ballerinas Amelia Chandulal-Mackay, Ariah Mandeno, and Sophi-Kate Groen twirl, spin, leap and glide as Kulios String Quartet make their instruments sing.
Candlelight Ballet returns in February 2023.
Choreographed by New Zealand’s own Lesley Bandy, whose astounding career saw her perform with the Royal Opera Ballet at Covent Garden as well as in productions across the world, ballerinas Ariah Mandeno, Asa Waller and Amelia Chandulal-Mackay will feature during renditions of Sleeping Beauty Waltz, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Arabian Dance, Dance of the Mirlitons and Waltz of the Flowers among others .
Not to be outdone, Kulios String Quartet will continue the magic with even more elegant sounds of Tchaikovsky, Strauss and other Romantic masterminds. Candlelight Ballet promises to be an unbeatable experience and we can’t think of a better way to spend an evening than with a magical night of classical music with accompanying dance performances unfolding before your eyes.
Candlelight Ballet takes place at Holy Trinity Cathedral on 18 February at 6:30pm.
Please Note: The candles are flameless for the safety of performers and the audience.
