Auckland Art Gallery received a world-famous exhibition. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Art and Life in Modern Mexico launched on Saturday, October 15.
The epic exhibition features over 150 artworks by the celebrated Mexican couple who played a crucial role in defining new art after the Mexican Revolution. From Frida Kahlo’s paintings and drawings exploring personal identity to her husband, Diego Rivera’s outward interest in national character…go on a journey of art, love and life.
The international exhibition also includes a number of works by the pair’s wider social and artistic circles. For example, photography revealing mid-century Mexican life by the likes of Lola Álvarez Bravo while murals by David Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo will be on display.
The opening weekend saw guests treated to a Mexican feast of tacos by La Mexicana, music and make-your-own Mexican crafts. Plus, Gallery Curator Julia Waite shared insights into Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Art and Life in Modern Mexico opens from 10am-5pm daily. The exhibition will run until January 22, 2023. Tickets cost $24.50 for adults. So, whether you’re an art nerd or not, it’s an unmissable place to admire famous, international artworks.
