That’s because desserts are a heavenly part of life and offer us a mood booster whenever we are feeling rough. Here are eight of our favourite desserts from around the world and where to find them in Auckland.
1. Belgian Waffles
Larger than regular waffles, Belgian waffles have deeper pockets, perfect for holding mountain loads of ingredients, from Nutella, to maple syrup, ice-cream, sweets and more. Luckily, Dessert lovers can get their fix at plenty of Auckland joints. For instance, you could try The House Of Chocolate Dessert Café (pictured), who dish up some delicious fresh Liege waffles that can be customised to be smothered in chocolates, caramels, nibbles and much more.

2. Spanish Churros
This Spanish dessert is a fried dough with a fluffy inside and goes down heavenly paired with hot chocolate sauce. Indeed, there are plenty of popular go-to spots in Auckland, but you need to try the most authentic ones for the most pleasure. We think Toro Churros is a must-visit to level up your churros experience. You can get original churros, churros topped with Nutella and other sauces, heart shaped churros and scrumptious filled churros. Indeed, these are the greatest Spanish churros you’ll get in town.

3. Italian Tiramisu
This beautiful Italian dessert is made of ladyfingers dipped in coffee, layered with a mixture of eggs, sugar, mascarpone cheese and flavoured with cocoa. A slice of Tiramisu is the pick-me-up you need whenever you’re feeling blue. It just so happens that the folks over at Giapo Kitchen cater the most indulgent gluten-free portions that have rave reviews. Named ‘Mum’s Tiramisu‘, you can get a slice for yourself starting at $7.50 or feed a gang with a gigantic one for $58. Our mouths are watering at the the sight of the picture above.

4. French Crème Brulée
All the way from France, this traditional vanilla flavoured dessert is made of a rich custard base, topped with layers of caramel and often smothered with berries. And, where better to find this traditional French delicacy than at a French eatery. Expect this piece of heaven at Le Chef or Le Garde-Manager. Certainly, it’s the indulgence you need after a meal to finish the evening off right.

5. New York Cheesecake

6. Banoffee Pie
Auckland is no stranger to this scrumptious English dessert made from bananas, thick caramel sauce, cream, butter and biscuits. The recipe has evolved worldwide to include plenty of OTT extras, from chocolate to coffee, and more. If you’re a Banoffee Pie lover then you must try the droll worthy gluten-free Banoffee Pie at The Pie Piper. These guys are known for whipping up some of the best desserts in town, so you know you’ll find a winner. And hey, they even deliver!

Of course, we had to include this traditional meringue-based dessert from our side of the globe. It’s a crisp crust and soft inside, normally topped with whipped cream and fruits. Pavlova enthusiasts and dessert lovers alike will be eager to taste the variety of Pavlova’s over at Winona Forever. Already, they are famous for coming up with most creative treats and cakes with bizarre ingredients that are just delightful. Take a look at their Instagram if you don’t believe us. 8. German Black Forest Cake
This much-loved German delicacy consists of layers of chocolate cake with cherry sauces, chopped cherries and whipped cream filling. It’s often hard to find a tasty one in Auckland, but we think you’ll enjoy the traditional gluten-free black forest cake from The Caker. Double layered, packed with raspberries and cherries, covered in creamy chocolate icing and more, what is not to like? Perfect for an upcoming party.
