A new year has arrived and we’re well and truly into summer. And, after the buzz of festivities around Christmas you’re probably looking for some fun activities to fill the warm weather season with.
You’re spoiled for choice in Auckland, as there’s plenty to do at this time of year. From art galleries to inflatable water parks to food festivals, here are some of the best things to do over the next few months in Auckland.
1. Van Gogh Alive Exhibition
This incredibly popular event is back in New Zealand for a full tour to kick off the year. Complete with moving images, soundtracks and custom-made aromas, this is one you really do not want to be missing.

2. Auckland Vegan Food Festival 2021
Auckland’s very best vegan food will fill the bellies of the hungry attendees of the second event of its kind. From mouth-watering donuts to scrumptious vegan donuts, this is the vegan food event of the year.

3. Auckland Lantern Festival
After its lights were unfortunately turned off last year due to Covid-19, Auckland Lantern Festival is back in 2021 for its 21st edition. Celebrating the year of the Ox, the beloved event will display hundreds of beautiful lanterns for Chinese New Year, along with a host of other activities.

4. Auckland Arts Festival
This wonderful event lasts for two-and-a-half-weeks, showcasing the bucket loads of creative talent in Auckland. It’s the 13th addition of the annual festival, and there are ticketed and free events. Find out more here.

5. Free Interactive Sound Experience
This has sat in Aotea Square since December, and is set to remain until the end of February. You and your friends, or people you meet, can create unique sounds on the interactive squares. Who can make the best melodies?

6. The Enormous LEGO Exhibition
Since rolling into Auckland last month, this has garnered the love of all LEGO obsessives. It even boasts the tallest LEGO model (a NASA rocket) in the entire Southern Hemisphere! Check it out now.

7. Waterworld Aquapark
A giant inflatable waterpark is making its way around Auckland’s beaches this summer. Waterworld Aquapark is one of the largest of its kind in New Zealand and promises waves of fun on its course.
