New Zealand’s biggest lights festival returned to New Plymouth in Taranaki for five weeks this summer season. TSB Festival of Lights 2022 takes place until January 22, 2023 showcasing a number of mesmerising light displays and artworks so you just have another few days to get in on the action.
The festival is held at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth which is a well-worth-it four hour drive from Auckland. Wonderfully, visitors can explore 13 different light installations, in a lush garden setting – all for free.
The instagrammable experience exhibits awe-inspiring artworks such as the Evanescent, in partnership with Art in Public Places Trust, which is a larger-than-life bubble illusion display on the Fountain Lake and Palm Lawn. Venture Taranaki’s Firefly Field – featuring glowing fireflies moving across the ground – is another showstopper. While you can’t miss Deep Thought, by Favour the Brave, brings guests on a sensory journey, to name a few.
Additionally, attendees can enjoy a range of food trucks as well as plenty of entertainment at the Festival Hub. Plus, organisers stated there will be events for children and seniors, an outdoor cinema playing family-friendly movies and even a NYE extravaganza.
The Festival of Lights is on from 8.30pm to 11pm daily. Certainly, the perfect summer road trip to experience the magic of lights in New Plymouth. For updates, visit the Festival of Lights Facebook page.
